Information Technology is about moving and managing Data. We have been using the words: data, information, knowledge, power and wisdom. Have you ever noticed, what is the difference and relationship between these words? Sometimes, people think data and information are same things.

"Facts without context is Data. If Data is organized or structured, it becomes Information, and moving and managing of information is Knowledge management, knowledge becomes Power and finally this power becomes Wisdom".

Here is the simple life cycle for easy understanding:

Data --> Information --> Knowledge --> Power --> Wisdom

ASTM Continuity of Care Record (CCR)

CCR is an XML-based standard used for clinical data exchange which was developed by ASTM International. CCR provides a "snapshot" of treatment and basic patient information – it is not comprehensive like an EHR. Its primary function is to ease the transition of a patient from one provider to the next.

The information included in the record focuses on the diagnosis and reason for referral rather than symptoms and treatment chronology. It may include information from only a single provider visit or may be more extensive to include data from multiple visits. The amount of information included varies by provider and patient.

CCR is a concise standard that uses a defined set of core data and is based on XML. CCR uses only specified XML code. It does not support/allow narrative text (free-text) which can sometimes be hindering to physicians, and it is not electronically acceptable by all systems.

CCR was intended to remain neutral with technology and so can be transmitted electronically or on paper. Therefore the patient can manually carry the CCR to the referring physician’s office, if desired – a characteristic that is advantageous when no connectivity exists.

Located in the Al Razi Building at DHCC, DMS features 20 fully-equipped clinics and examination rooms, six diagnostic rooms, four state-of-the-art operating theatres, four induction and 12 recovery beds as well as an ICU bed for emergency cases.

Specialties currently covered by DMS include Anesthesiology, Cardio-Respiratory Sleep Disorders, Endocrinology & Diabetes, Ear Nose & Throat, Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine, Nutrition, Pain Medicine, Pediatrics & Pediatric Gastroenterology and Radiology.

DMS is using PragRecord™, an electronic medical record solution, powered by Pragmedic Solutions. PragRecord™ is an Electronic Medical Record for outpatient clinics looking to take their practice to the next level by efficiently managing the patient health record including patient charting and enables practice-wide clinical workflow automation. Minhaal - Arab world’s first online patients information service

Minhaal (the source) is the first dual-language Arab portal that provides healthcare related information. It is Arab world’s first extensive online information service for patients which is available in both Arabic and English.

The online service is created by Mubadala Healthcare of UAE to raise awareness on health issues among Arabic speakers, and provide prevention and treatment information. It enables patients to research symptoms and examine possible treatments.

Minhaal contains more than 200 healthcare topics relevant to the Middle East. Content is provided through syndication agreements with international online resources such as WebMD and is endorsed by an advisory board, including representatives from the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi and the Mubadala Healthcare network.

Minhaal’s ultimate goal is to provide residents of the UAE and Arabic speaking people all over the world with an Internet portal that continually provides the most accurate, reliable and up-to-date healthcare related information.
